About Westwood

Westwood, home of the University of California (UCLA), is a residential and commercial community in the north end of Westside, Los Angeles. It is bordered by the neighbors of Beverly Hills, Century City, West Los Angeles, the Veterans Administration, Brentwood, and Bel Air. The south end of Holmby Hills is also part of this district.

Of its entire population, forty-seven thousand people living in Westwood were found by the 2000 census to be typically young and ethnically diverse. They also had a moderately high income level as well as education.

Westwood was established as a district after 1919 when the new UCLA campus was being built. Other interesting features include Westwood Village which has restaurants, shopping, and historic picture theaters. Visitors also enjoy the Hammer Museum and Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.

One of the most affluent neighborhoods in L.A. is Holmby Hills with homes priced for over $15 million. You’ll find French inspired architecture with grand entry ways and large motor courts. These homes are built on sizable lots with tennis courts, beautiful pools, and gorgeous landscaped grounds. Westwood is also home to many condominiums and townhouses that range from the high 400’s to millions for a luxury unit. It’s a rare opportunity to be able to live in a highly sought after condominium at The Carlyle Residences on Wilshire Corridor. At just under $3 million, these homes offer spectacular views of the mountains, city, and ocean. And they are conveniently located close to Westwood Village, Rodeo Drive, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills. These condos feature oversized master suites that are connected to bathrooms with marble throughout. The kitchens have oversized islands along with a private dining area. Residents have full access to a 24 hour valet, concierge, wine locker, and outdoor living room.

The Westwood Village shopping district opened in 1929 and today still offers a village atmosphere. It’s only minutes by foot from the UCLA campus and there are many different cultured restaurants including Chinese, Thai, Persian, Japanese, Indian, and American. Public education offers schools like Fairburn Avenue Elementary, Emerson Community Charter School, and University Senior High School.
